Student Registration Open for Virtual College Tour

September 28, 2020 | Young Harris, GA

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the Probe College Tour–this year the popular events are virtual.

Mini Zoom webinar fairs are scheduled during two phases–the first October 5-7 and another November 2nd and 4-5, all programs offering participants great connections with college representatives.

Probe provides access to Georgia High School Students

“We are pleased to present an online alternative and continue to allow Probe to link Georgia High School students and colleges together in a healthy safe manner,” says Clint Hobbs Probe Executive Director.

Registered participants will have access to live panel discussions and presentations during several evening forums starting at 5pm daily. In addition, registering allows access to review the sessions at a later time and enables students to connect with schools following the fair events.

Registration is free and may be done online

Students, parents and high school guidance counselors can register online at https://www.gaprobe.org/students/. On the registration pages, students and counselors will have separate links to register. Parents are encouraged to register using their students’ information.

Probe also offers a QR code for media and high schools so they may easily publish and share the link. Using a mobile device, registrants can scan the code from a web page, or on a printed document.

Presenters will address key topics and unique features

Probe presenters represent various colleges and universities throughout the nation with emphasis on those in the Southeast.  The free events illuminate the unique features of each school.

“One of the biggest successes of the Probe Tour is introducing students to schools they might not know about otherwise, says Hobbs. “The perfect fit might not be the one with the marquee name.”

Virtual College Tour Offers New Options for Students

September 14, 2020 | Atlanta, GA

Probe College Fairs connect thousands of students with college and university representatives each year. This fall the tradition continues with online virtual tours.

“We realize not having an in-person Fair will be different this year,” says Clint Hobbs Probe Executive Director. “However, we are confident that Georgia high school students and their families will be able to learn more about colleges and universities through this format.”

Using Zoom-webinars and the assistance of StriveScan, the mini fairs will consist of 45-minute sessions hosted by various college representatives. Each will allow students and families access to panels and presentations.

They will also include a virtual chat feature and the option to connect further with a college liaison. Though limited in time, these live interactions will help students identify schools that they want to investigate–often the perfect fit might not be a widely known institution.

Probe Connects Students with Opportunity

“Probe has always been about connecting people with people,” says Hobbs. “It is particularly great at linking students with colleges and universities that fit their needs despite a household name.”

The free virtual tour features evening start times, held in two mini-fair formats:

Monday – Wednesday, October 5-7, 2020

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, November 2, November 4-5, 2020

Fair Registration Opens on Tuesday, September 15 @ Noon

Nightly programs begin at 5pm and continue hourly with two to three session options.  Registration will open on September 15 at noon – visit gaprobe.org on the 15th to access registration.  The programs are free and parents are welcome to attend.

Participants are will also be allowed to review presentations following the live sessions in order to get as much information as possible.

For a list of colleges and universities scheduled to participate, go here.

All presentations will be recorded, organized, and stored on YouTube. “If a student can’t make one of our Probe virtual fair sessions, they can come back to the content at any time,” says Hobbs.

FAQs for College Representatives | Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour

Want to know about the Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions for college representatives.

What is a Virtual Probe Tour?

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Fall 2020 Probe Tour will be held virtually in two parts, or fairs: October 5 – 7; and November 2, November 4 – 5.

The October fair will run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, while the November fair will run Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. On Monday, October 5 and again on November 2, we will kick-off the fair with two college panels offered from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. EST and from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. EST.

On the second and third evenings, we will host “6X6” sessions at 5:00 p.m, 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. All times are eastern standard times.

StriveScan has been retained to administer the fairs.

What is StriveScan?

StriveScan is a provider of student scanning software and a new virtual college exploration format using Zoom Webinars, a virtual conferencing solution. StriveScan will administer virtual fairs in more than 20 states this fall.

Can all colleges and universities register for Probe?

Only regionally-accredited colleges, college ROTC representatives, or military academies are permitted to participate in Probe.

What are “college panels”?

College panels are delivered via Zoom Webinars and feature a Probe-moderator and up to three college representatives. These are topically driven discussions that address key college search topics.

College panels will be held:

Monday, October 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. All times are eastern standard time.

Monday, November 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. EST.

I would like to represent my college on a panel. How can I participate?

All colleges that register for the tour will be considered for a panelist spot in one of six panels that will be offered over two virtual fairs.

The GEAC Board will choose the topics offered and the panelists from colleges that register for the Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour and who agree to be Probe Partners.

Prior to the event, a designated-Probe board member will reach out to the selected college panelists to discuss the topic and to coordinate the discussion.

What is a Probe Partner?

A Probe Partner is a registered college with the tour that agrees to share and pool their inquiry file. Probe then uses the data to directly contact Georgia high school students about upcoming Probe fairs. The pooled data cannot be accessed by other schools and is only used to promote the Probe tour.

Probe Partners will receive additional recognition during the promotion of the tour as well as additional inquiries from panel and session registrations.

Does my college have to be in Georgia to participate in the Probe Partner’s Program?

No. The program is open to all regionally accredited colleges and universities.

The more colleges that participate increase our ability to reach Georgia high school students to share information about their post-secondary opportunities.

What are “6X6 sessions”?

These Zoom-webinar sessions are 45 minutes in length and feature up to six colleges. Each college representative has the opportunity to speak for up to six minutes before turning over the presentation to the next college presenter.

Each presenter has the opportunity to engage with students during the session via a virtual chat, or to invite the student to connect outside of the event. Participants will be placed on mute and not allowed to display video.

A StriveScan representative will log in 15 minutes in advance of the schedule session to check in with the representatives and make sure everyone is ready. The representative will remain in the virtual event as a facilitator only, keeping everyone on track.

6X6 sessions are offered three times each night of the fair at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00 p.m. EST.

Depending upon the number of colleges that register, there will be a number of concurrent sessions during each hour.

So, how does the 6X6 schedule work?

Depending upon the number of colleges that register the tour, there will be a number of concurrent sessions during each hour as follows (all times are eastern standard time):

Session 1

6X6 1 session 1: 5:00 p.m.- 5:45 p.m. (6 colleges)

The Georgia Education Articulation Committee (GEAC) today announced the Fall 2020 Probe Tour will be conducted entirely online. This will be done in the form of two, three-day “virtual fairs” in early October and November 2020.

“With the uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, our board worked diligently to find a solution to maintain our commitment to Georgia students in helping them evaluate their college options,” says Probe Executive Director Clint Hobbs.

The Probe Tour will be administered through StriveScan, a provider of student scanning software and a new virtual college exploration format using Zoom Webinars, a commercial conferencing solution. StriveScan will administer virtual fairs in more than 20 states this fall.

During live presentations, Georgia students and their families will be able to access a variety of college panels and presentations to evaluate their options. Fall Probe College Tour to go Virtual

July 31, 2020 | Young Harris, Ga

In midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, this year the annual Fall Probe College Tour is virtual. While in-person fairs are on hold until the Spring of 2021 organizers and college representatives are still committed to offering the best opportunities for students.

“We realize not having an in-person Fair will be different than in years past, but we are compelled to help Georgia high school students evaluate their college options,” says Clint Hobbs, Probe Executive Director.

Probe is a free annual program of college fairs and guidance counselor workshops, managed by the Georgia Education Articulation Committee (GEAC). The group’s mission is to share information and stimulate interest in post-secondary education for students in Georgia.

Through the aid of virtual technology, Probe strives to present hundreds of colleges from across America to Georgia high school students. This year, instead of being physically present, students will examine their options online.

“Based on the current health situation, having students explore colleges virtually is prudent and we are glad to help with that process,” says Hobbs. “While Probe may look and feel different, we think there are advantages for many students.”

Among those benefits is increased flexibility. Students may browse through videos from a variety of colleges and universities at their leisure. While these samples will feature the climate and culture of each school, those wanting more can opt to participate in moderated college panels. Though the popular Zoom software, sessions will deliver a more interactive experience. “Students and their parents will be able to participate in topical discussions and college previews, have their questions answered through online chat, and connect with colleges they are interested in,” Hobbs continued.

Probe attracts schools from the Southeast, and many from outside the region. Hobbs sees the virtual options this year as a great way for students to sample the programs at lesser known institutions.

“The virtual Probe tour opens doors to even more colleges because time and travel restrictions are eliminated,” says Hobbs. “We encourage students to visit the Probe website often so they can take advantage of schools they might not know about. One of those schools might be the perfect fit.”

Students are invited to register for upcoming sessions and to view archived content starting August 28, 2020. As with the traditional in-person fairs, the tour will continue to be free. Probe hopes to reinstate in-person fairs in Spring of 2021.

Update | Fall Probe Tour Registration

July 10, 2020 | Young Harris, Ga

The Georgia Education Articulation Committee (GEAC) announced today that college registration for the Fall 2020 Probe Tour has been delayed until Friday, July 31, 2020.

“School systems across Georgia are finalizing their reopening plans in light of the ongoing certainty from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Clint Hobbs, Executive Director of Probe. “The committee is in process of reconfirming participation with local representatives of fall Probe host sites. We are also evaluating options for adding virtual events that will extend our reach throughout the state.”

The mission of Probe is to disseminate information about post-secondary college options to Georgia high school students. “We are considering virtual college panels as well as archived content from college exhibitor partners,” Hobbs continued.

“Virtual events may supplement in-person fairs this fall and into the future. We see this channel as yet another way to achieve our mission,” said Hobbs.

While Webinar software for online meetings has been available for twenty years, before the pandemic it not been a substantial part of college recruitment. According to Hobbs, however, virtual recruitment events are here to stay. “Students have rapidly adapted to the use of online meeting software to complete their studies and to access college information. We see this as an opportunity to extend the reach of Probe beyond our in-person events.”
